Layout

Frame line width
0.7 mm — ISO 5457:1999, 4.2: the frame limiting the drawing space shall be continuous lines of 0,7 mm width.
Borders
ISO 5457:1999, 4.2: 'The border shall be 20 mm wide on the left edge, including the frame. It can be used as a filing margin. All other borders are 10 mm wide.' Table 1 drawing-space sizes agree (trimmed - 30 by trimmed - 20).
Grid reference fields
50 mm long, labels 3.5 mm high, line width 0.35 mm — ISO 5457:1999, 4.4 and Table 2 (number of fields: A0 24 x 16, A1 16 x 12, A2 12 x 8, A3 8 x 6, A4 6 x 4, long side x short side)
Centring marks
4 marks, recommended line width 0.7 mm, extending 10 mm beyond the frame — ISO 5457:1999, 4.3 and Figure 5
Trimming marks
10 × 5 mm — ISO 5457:1999, 4.5 and Figure 6
Title block
A0 to A3: bottom right-hand corner of the drawing space; A4: the shorter (lower) part of the drawing space. The drawing reads in the direction of the title block. — ISO 5457:1999, 4.1 (layout of the title block itself: ISO 7200, see library/title-blocks/iso-7200.json)

Notes from the data file

  • Elongated sizes (e.g. A3.1 = short side of A3 with the long side of A1) should be avoided (ISO 5457:1999, 3.2, Figure 3); MechPilot does not offer them.
  • ISO 5457:1999/Amd 1:2010 allows A4 in both horizontal and vertical position according to DIN Media's summary of DIN EN ISO 5457 (changes Table 1, Figure 1 and 4.1 per Austrian Standards). The amendment's text was not seen, so A4 landscape is not in `sizes`; see docs/to-verify.md.
  • The width of the grid reference border (the strip between the frame and the trimmed edge that carries the letters and numerals) is drawn in Figure 4 but not stated in the text; it is left out (docs/to-verify.md).
  • Sheets larger than A0 need extra centring marks at the mid-point of each section to be filmed (4.3); MechPilot offers A0 to A4 only.
